Schengen Visa for Indians from French Embassy

Schengen Visa

With facebook clocking over 800 million members, the world has truly become much smaller than we think. Everybody now seems to have friends everywhere which is definitely a great thing for people wishing to travel around and see the world.

If you wish to visit Europe and know someone you call a friend in France, hold an Indian Passport, read on. This article is a summary of our experience in getting a schengen visa for Europe from the French embassy in New Delhi. Now wanting to get into the hassle of going through an agent booking hotels and travel tickets thereby restricting the flexibility of enjoying Europe at our will, we decided to apply directly for a visa. The standard documentation requirements are mentioned on the website and are easy to get together. The most important document is an “Attestation d’accueil” or the Invitation letter from someone living in France.

Attestation d’accueil is an official document from the concerned government office in France. Any French national can apply for the same by proving their details, a fee of 30 Euros (01/03/2013) and the travel details of the visitor. It can be applied from any local municipal office in any city (small or big) in France. This letter must be submitted in original along with the visa application. It is important to assure the contact details on this letter are correct as the embassy may contact you or host to confirm the details.

We were taken aback by the swiftness in processing the visa. With the application submitted at the VFS office at Nehru place, everything from processing to delivery was completed in less than 3 days. The reason could have been an early travel date but still hat’s off to their customer focus (something definitely not very visible in majority of embassies around the world).

You will usually get a 2-3 month visa with fewer days of stay after arrival depending on your application. All is set, pack your bags and have a great trip. Bon voyage!
